Comfortable Computing

Recurring aches and pains?

People whose work requires them to sit at a desk and use the computer for hours, generally suffer from neck, back, shoulder, or wrist pains. These aches and pains are most commonly caused by improper posture, wrong type of chair, non-adjustability of work equipment, and being stationary for a long period of time. These don’t only cause simple pains but also, these might pose a risk to a person’s health because of the serious conditions and injuries that may result from them.

The solution? Ergonomics. Not only will it improve health, but also increase work productivity. Other benefits include:

• feeling positively natural and comfortable
• low energy expenditure
• less stress to body
• relieves static posture fatigue
• improves blood circulation
• relaxes eyes, wrists, hands

Learn about Ergonomics and then plan your workspace design. The workspace should adjust to the person and not the other way around. Technology exists to make life easier. There are tools that can help you assess your workspace and plan it. There are also ergonomic furniture and equipment such as chairs, keyboard, mouse, and monitor mounts. These are just available to help you, but you must have the initiative and discipline to help yourself.
